Region

Natural beauty, breathtaking history and living presence.

South Bohemia.

Those two words smell of forests, glisten on the surface of rivers and ponds, breathe centuries of history and they pulse with culture, sports and experiences.

At the Grandhotel Zvon you have them at your fingertips.

You can easily reach all of České Budějovice sights on foot. Right on the square of Přemysl Otakar II. you can admire the baroque town hall, Samson's fountain or the many historic houses with arcades, including the other sights hidden in the nearby streets of the old town. The Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the Black Tower, the Dominican monastery, the medieval city walls…these are just a small taste of what you will see during your wanderings through the city.

A few minutes from the hotel you will also find the Museum of South Bohemia, the South Bohemian Theater and the South Bohemian Philharmonic. It is also only a short distance to the horse-drawn railway museum, the visitor center of the local famous Budvar brewery or the České Budějovice exhibition grounds.

A pleasant walk takes you to the swimming pool and sauna on Sokolský island, which in the summer is complemented by an outdoor swimming pool on the bank of the Vltava. The nearby winter stadium, Budvar Arena, offers public skating on weekends from spring to autumn, and the extra-league hockey team Motor České Budějovice plays its games here.

And what about when you get into the car!

The UNESCO monuments of Český Krumlov and Holašovice are within an hour's drive, as well as the historic towns of Jindřichův Hradec, Písek, Hussite Tábor or Třeboň with their medieval ponds and the tomb of the Schwarzenbergs. Zlatá Koruna Monastery, Hluboká, Červená Lhota or Kratochvíle castles are also perfect destinations. The oldest Czech lookout tower on Kleti, the picturesque New Castles with a wild English park in Terezia's valley, and the modern wonders including the Lipno dam reservoir, the elegant concrete bridge in Bechyn or the nuclear power plant in Temelín are all within travelling distance.

For lovers of an active holiday, there are the picturesque Vltava, Lužnice or Malše rivers, but above all, tens and hundreds of kilometers of cycle paths and cycling routes through the amazing landscape which you can travel by all the way to the Austrian Waldviertel.
